Our Story
It all started in 1993, when as a 15 year old our owner watched the show “Key West” for the first time. The idea of moving to the tiny island stuck with him for years. After serving in the Army and a deployment to Kuwait, he found himself lost in the rat race of life wondering if the dream of the keys life would ever become a reality. Fast forward to 2015, when after 10 years as an elevator technician, the opportunity became a reality. There was a need for an elevator foreman in Key West with his corporate elevator company, and he was the person selected to manage the lower keys.
Mike moved here on Martin Luther King day in 2016 and fell in love with the quirkiness of the island, eventually met his wife exactly one year to the day of moving here. They now have 2 beautiful little conchs of their own and traded the corporate elevator life for the detailed service a small company can provide. That dream has now become, Southernmost Elevator, established January, 2025
Since opening, we have now added a full-time apprentice, and conch, Jake Johnson. Jake is a professionally trained mechanic and has the drive to go far in this industry.
Non proprietary equipment for future flexibility with a focus on the environment
Let's face it, the Elevator industry is a niche market. With so much in industry jargon it's hard to make sense of what is being proposed to you at any given time. Top that off with the unknown of proprietary equipment, which could lock you into a manufacturer for years. Our approach uses high-quality non-proprietary equipment, which can be serviced by any certified Elevator company. Some brands we feature are Smart Rise controllers, EECO pumping units and valves, and GAL door equipment.
Our commitment will be to use environmentally, friendly hydraulic fluid when possible. It's a fact that most elevators in the keys operate off hydraulic fluid. There are many risks for hydraulic fluid to enter the ecosystem. While there are ways to mitigate the risk, there is no way to eliminate it without the use of an environmentally friendly hydraulic alternative. We are committed to providing our customers with the option to use an environmentally, friendly hydraulic fluid alternative when bidding all new installations of hydraulic equipment.
